The main authority controlling train traffic across a vast territory to move customer traffic across both the mainline and subsidy lines. Working closely with local transportation management to ensure customer commitments are met with the goals of precision scheduled railroading.

As a Manager of Operations I coordinate train crews within a territory to manage and ensure the safe and on time operations of all trains. Some specific responsibilities include:▪ Planning and coordinating train movement by generating switching plans for yard crews.▪ Supervise and coordinate activities of train crews engaged in switching rail cars to facilitate loading or unloading of cars and the making up and breaking down of trains. ▪ Responsible for conducting proficiency testing of train and engine personnel.▪ Operate trains on an as needed basis to fill crew shortages or for any other reason as required.▪ Maintain a positive relationship with all customers and vendors.

As a Freight Conductor I am responsible for the safe operation of freight trains and the transportation of cargo. The specific responsibilities of a Freight Conductor include:▪ Applying the Canadian Railroading Operating Rules (CROR) and Canadian Pacific Railway General Operating Instructions (GOI)▪ Ensuring compliance with all train orders, signals and regulations for safety▪ Properly documenting and safely handling bulk dangerous commodities▪ Reading and understanding bulletins, work orders, and switch lists▪ Reviewing instructions from dispatchers and yardmasters▪ Inspecting equipment on railcars and locomotives prior to departures▪ Receiving and transmitting information by radio to other freight crews and Rail Traffic Controllers▪ Coupling and uncoupling cars, operating switches, and making minor repairs to railcars, including replacing heavy couplings or air brake hoses.▪ Placing cars to facilitate loading and unloading and the makeup and breakdown of trains in a rail yard, industrial plant, or similar location.
