Since 2018, I'm fulfilling a new role in vocational education, the so called 'practor'. This role is comparable with the role of lector in higher education. My assignment is to enhance the quality of learning at the workplace by practice based research. The focus in my working life is to support students in their ambitions to become real professionals. To this aim, I developed the reflective case study method. My research on this method showed students' struggles in their practices. The results gave input to improve bachelor and master curricula. With my former colleague, Lillian Maas, originated from Houston, I developed an international exchange program for master students, and I visited with them the medical centres in Rochester, NY and Houston, Texas for many years. To enhance students' research skills, I rewrote Nieswiadomy's book Nursing research for the Dutch and Belgium market. Together with AnneLoes van Staa and Lausanne Mies, I published a new study book for nurses on self management support for patients with chronic conditions. And last but not least, my PhD dissertation explored the Professional Responsibilities of the Dutch Nurse Specialists.
