I recently graduated with a First Class Degree in Computer Science with Honours from the University of Edinburgh. I'm particularly enthusiastic about lower-level programming and getting the most out of hardware, but I love problem-solving of all kinds!I’ve taken courses in operating systems, secure programming, security engineering, computer graphics, databases, computer architecture/design and parallel programming. I’ve had the opportunity to use many different languages including Python, Java, C/C++, Rust, Haskell, Matlab and Verilog.In my third year, I participated in a semester-long project with nine other students to design and build a simulated robot. As the group leader, I was responsible for my own work, as well as the integration of everyone’s individual components. I had to familiarise myself with sockets, REST API design/development/use, Android development, 3D modelling, and simulation in a short period of time. I pulled it off and our group received an A grade!I have also received excellent marks for my coursework. Some notable examples include: 🔹 A custom route planning algorithm in Java that visits checkpoints on a map in the shortest number of steps, avoiding arbitrarily sized/shaped buildings. 🔹 A raytracer written in C++ with support for meshes, texture mapping, and bounced lighting.I received a grade of 87% and 89% for these respectively, with a mark of 94% for my report on my planning algorithm.In my spare time, I love to learn new things; at the moment, I’m really excited about Rust. A month or so ago, I started using it to write an NES emulator. I’ve since put in considerable work, adding full video, audio, and controller support. I haven't reached a conversational proficiency yet, but my reading ability is somewhere between JLPT levels N4 and N3.
