I have worked in K-12 public education since 1995, thirteen of these years at the high school level, eight years at the middle school level and one year at the elementary level. In that time I have held various positions as teacher, department head, athletic coach, athletic trainer, assistant principal and principal. As principal at Haines City High School and HCIB, I serve a school with 2,900 students, 230 staff members and 5 assistant principals. The school includes an International Baccalaureate Program, a Junior Reserve Officer Training Core, The Environmental Agriculture & Technology Academy, The Academy of Media Production, The Academy of Children's Educational Studies, The Visual Arts Pathway and The Performing Arts Pathway. During my time as an assistant principal at Largo High School, I have served as an International Baccalaureate Coordinator, Instructional Coordinator, Behavior/Support Coordinator, Athletic Director and Activities Coordinator. Over the last six years at Haines City HS, discipline referrals have decreased by 31% and the graduation rate has increased by 20%. I believe the key to success is in utilizing decision making, relationship building and positive behavior to create an unforgettable experience and raise student achievement.I have gained valuable leadership strategies from my involvement and commitment to raising student achievement at various Middle and High Schools. I work to provide a positive and successful learning environment, while striving to improve the academic, emotional and social development of students. I believe in providing students with a foundation of education that promotes lifelong learning. My strengths and interests include research and application strategies in: leadership, achievement motivation, pedagogy, assessment, support systems, behavior management, community relations, and the improvement of school-wide student listening, thinking, speaking, writing and reading. One of my proudest moments involved the first graduating class for the Largo High School International Baccalaureate Program. Forty-four seniors matriculated to thirteen different post secondary schools with a combined scholarship total of $1.2M. Serving as IB Coordinator, I developed the program from the initial phases, which included hiring and training staff, gaining authorization, and earning accreditation, while adhering to IB, state, and county standards, policies and procedures.
