My first opportunity at public administration was served well by representing 4,000 constituents as a Senator to the Government of the Student Body (now simply known as Student Government) at Iowa State University. Though cut short by an opportunity to study abroad, my time as an elected student official of a major accredited university introduced to me the powerful impact of community service. As a whole, our student government was responsible for fiscal and social decisions that have had a lasting impact on our campus. Our allocation of $2 million gave our classmates affordable access to social services and legal aid, a robust student organization network, and engaging opportunities to promote a holistic experience of higher education.
