Cybercenturion Coordinator, Team Leader

Isle Of Man

After competing in CyberCenturion for 6 years (II to VII), I became a team leader. From September to December (previously January), I organise sessions to teach our local competitors, often some of whom are competing for the first time, elements of cyber security, as well as facilitating practice rounds and 2x4-hour (previously 3x6-hour) competition rounds each year. Ultimately, if any of our teams perform high enough, they win a trip to the finals in the United Kingdom where I coordinate transport, accommodation and much more to ensure that not only is the trip educational but exciting and fast-paced for the teams. In my first year as TL, CyberCenturion VIII (2021/22), I coordinated 5 competing teams across the Junior and Senior age brackets, presenting a cohort of mixed and all-boys teams. One of our senior teams, 'CyberAces', and one of our junior teams, 'The Toast Mine of Cookies', earned places at the final in April 2022. See a short video I produced from the Finals at RAF Hendon here: https://youtu.be/bqWPJbLOXHUFor CyberCenturion IX, we hosted 7 local teams, including the Isle of Man's first ever all-girls team. The results from the qualifying rounds were great; three teams earned places at the finals, 'CyberAces' (senior boys), 'I am Root' (junior boys) and 'Cyber Dragons' (senior girls). At the finals, our teams performed exceptionally well, earning first place across both the senior and junior categories.Unfortunately, at the end of CyberCenturion X (2023/24), STEM Learning UK shared that due to the conclusion of sponsorship, the CyberCenturion programme was coming to a close.

Assets Manager

Douglas, Isle Of Man

Being the Assets Manager required me to report back on any of the club's assets, such as 3D Printers, PCs, LEGO Robots and much more at our regular committee meetings. One of my key responsibilities was to organise all of our assets, including controlling which assets were borrowed or kept in certain locations at any specific time, and meet with external organisations, e.g. Love Tech, regarding use of each others' equipment. Furthermore, I took it upon myself at times to hunt for funding to drive new and existing projects from an assets perspective, like raising a 5-figure sum to purchase a new bank of high-powered devices for events such as CyberCenturion (a cyber security competition that Code Club competes in) or our more resource-intensive courses, like Unity.Another responsibility was that of efficiently preparing, and packing away any devices or items required for the weekly sessions (laptops, 3D printer equipment etc), as well as our more intense sessions, such as setting up 10-20 workstations for the CyberCenturion competition rounds, which we take part in two (previously three) times a year – prior to acquiring the aforementioned high-power devices, we used full desktop setups (PC, monitor, keyboard, mouse) all of which had to be built and took down within 24 hours.During the period in 2023 where Code Club lost its venue and subsequently operated on a trial basis week-to-week in different venues, it was my responsibility to orchestrate the move-out of all our assets, as well as ensuring that each week in the different venues we had the kit required to educate many students across varius disciplines.

Managing Director

Douglas, Isle Of Man

As managing director of our company, I was key to the culmination of the work of my five partners in business. We had to fundraise, research, source, and succeed in business. We produced our product on-island and then sold it to many customers to bring in a profit. Our successes lead us to win 2nd place at the Junior Achievement Company of the Year Competition, where we had to write a 10-page report, perform a business presentation, set up and operate a trade stand and perform under pressure in a panel interview. Due to hard effort, I pioneered my enterprise to 2nd place in the competition. This business is no longer run as part of the Junior Achievement Student Company programme.
