When I started with Fiserv in 2011, I was a temp happy to work while listening to music all day. I quickly found a proficiency for learning new things and finding ways to improve upon stagnated methods. I rose through multiple roles, finding that writing scripts and later coding programs improved upon the lives of both myself and coworkers. Once I joins other developers, I continued to gain new knowledge and in doing so, found joy in software development. When dealing with the capture of bank tickets, check scanners are used by clients and financial institutions to read the items. A leading issue with this process is installing and using the scanners properly. I would call the users and work directly with them to resolve these issues. One of the major projects I completed was the creation and support of over a dozen check scanner installation packages that not only ran drivers but automated numerous system changes to allow things to work without manual intervention. These installers are still used today and have been run on an estimated 1 million computers across the nation. One of the most important applications in Item Processing is the system that captures items from clients and financial institutions. The server support role required me to investigate and correct errors in the database as well as manage anything needed to keep the application running correctly. In some cases, I would identify and write up defects for the development group. Most of my efforts, though, involved scripting or programming minor applications to meet needs and solve issues. When a position in the software development group became available, I jumped at the chance. It quickly became apparent that I was a take-charge type of programmer not afraid to implement changes to increase test coverage, document procedures, and simplify overly complex code. In addition to programming, I also acted as a product owner to a net-new application as well as designing and planning the story roadmap with other business analysts using agile methodologies. After ten years with Fiserv, I found another role that would help me grow as a software developer.
