Responsible for the development and delivery of environmental sustainability, and energy activity across the Aster Group, an ethical developer and landlord that has an annual turnover of £195m, 1300 staff and assets of over £1bn located within the south & south west of the UK. Previously responsible for delivering the groups collective health, safety, energy and environment and energy agenda including maintaining all delivering all associated corporate pans objectives and targets• Previously responsible for maintaining and delivering all organisational EHS committees and associated working groups • Implemented a safety-first culture campaign across the organisation and successfully introduced an electronic safety management system including live accident and incident reporting process for front line operatives that saw an improved accident reporting culture• Recruited and successful expanded the team in line with business risks and demands• Successfully overhauled the group safety and environment training plans, leading to an overall improvement of training compliance rates to sector leading performance levels• Previously responsible for monthly safety board reports, annual assurance reporting and any exception reporting associated with any major incidents and what corrective actions had been implemented• Supporting the groups Risk and Compliance Committees and maintaining and updating the groups safety environmental risk and legal registers

Formerly the Corporate Lead officer for the development of strategic environmental initiatives for the Council and wider partnership across the borough. This included working on shaping Oldham’s contribution to the City Regional Environmental agenda, and working with established regional and national agencies. Key responsibilities included directly line managing environmental policy staff whom were responsible for, the areas of climate change, environmental strategy development, corporate social responsibility, low carbon economy development, Renewable energy deployment, coordinating energy efficiency activities across the Borough, estate carbon management and the deployment of a Corporate Environmental Management System (externally certified to the ISO14001 standard). I reported and presented directly to Council Chief Officers and Cabinet. I was responsible for developing, with strategic partners key council policies as a member of the Corporate policy function of the Council. I also worked collaboratively to develop the wider low carbon economy and took direct lead on the development of Oldham’s new low carbon energy centre and retrofit fit programme for the borough. This involved helping develop an regional Green Technology centre based in Oldham. I also worked on behalf of the 10 greater Manchester authorities and the government department Business Innovation and Skills to develop the UK’s first joint venture to develop a low carbon pipeline of retrofit and low carbon infrastructure projects as part of the former Low carbon hub status granted to the city region under the previous Government deal for cities designation granted to Greater Manchester.Also developed at the time the UK's largest public authority led reverse energy auction saving customers on average around £200 per year.

Team manager and corporate environmental lead within the Council’s Environmental Policy Team. This role was positioned within the councils Economy and Enterprise Unit. This helped ensure links between the council’s environmental activities and the Economic prosperity theme of Oldham Partnership Local Area Agreement. Responsible for managing the delivery of a range of EU funded transnational projects. This role involved representing the Authority on high profile and substantial transnational projects across Europe. Projects focussed on the roll out of policies for energy planning and also renewable energy deployment within in land use planning documents and proposed new development agreements. Directly project managed a number of EU revenue projects and capital programmes to successful financial completion.Lead officer responsible for environmental reporting and aspects of the Former Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA) audit process, environmental National Indicators and the Councils response to the Use of Resources Agenda under the former CAA regime.

Developing innovative responses to the challenges of climate change and the broader sustainability agenda. Project management and securing of funding for externally funded pilot projects. These have included, leading on an innovative European renewable energy planning tool (REALcom). Also project managed two locally funded (New Deal for Communities and former Neighbourhood Renewal Fund) operational street scene and neighbourhood management projects. These focused on improving the public realm through improving the physical environment , educating the community and introducing enforcement practices for littering. I also worked to ensure the promotion of sustainable development within the Council, with our partners, with businesses and the community through the development of communication project with local residents and establishing indicators for monitoring the effectiveness and impact of the boroughs Environment Strategy.

A role established to develop economic and environmental programs that successfully involved and engaged the boroughs business community (of all sizes) to see them develop and establish environmental awareness and operational procedures that enhanced their credentials and improved their overall productivity and business efficiencies. I worked directly with over 100 businesses to reduce their overheads and potential environmental liabilities. I also helped improve the local profitability and the associated local employment levels of those business assisted. This role involved project management to ensure the successful delivery of the EU, ERDF funding.

Specifically appointed to enhance and maintain the environmental management of the wildlife trusts operations and associated activities. This included the development of green procurement guides, site environmental audits and working with staff to develop appropriate written procedures to ensure legal and best environmental operations throughout the trust’s daily operations. In this role I also assisted in promoting the trusts activities within the community, while actively seeking funding opportunities to continue to fund delivery of the environmental work programme.
