Lead- Environmental PolicyOldham Metropolitan Borough Council Jun 2009 - Jan 2013Oldham, GbFormerly the Corporate Lead officer for the development of strategic environmental initiatives for the Council and wider partnership across the borough. This included working on shaping Oldham’s contribution to the City Regional Environmental agenda, and working with established regional and national agencies. Key responsibilities included directly line managing environmental policy staff whom were responsible for, the areas of climate change, environmental strategy development, corporate social responsibility, low carbon economy development, Renewable energy deployment, coordinating energy efficiency activities across the Borough, estate carbon management and the deployment of a Corporate Environmental Management System (externally certified to the ISO14001 standard). I reported and presented directly to Council Chief Officers and Cabinet. I was responsible for developing, with strategic partners key council policies as a member of the Corporate policy function of the Council. I also worked collaboratively to develop the wider low carbon economy and took direct lead on the development of Oldham’s new low carbon energy centre and retrofit fit programme for the borough. This involved helping develop an regional Green Technology centre based in Oldham. I also worked on behalf of the 10 greater Manchester authorities and the government department Business Innovation and Skills to develop the UK’s first joint venture to develop a low carbon pipeline of retrofit and low carbon infrastructure projects as part of the former Low carbon hub status granted to the city region under the previous Government deal for cities designation granted to Greater Manchester.Also developed at the time the UK's largest public authority led reverse energy auction saving customers on average around £200 per year. -

This role was positioned within the councils Economy and Enterprise Unit.
