I am responsible for organising events for BSIN such as our annual scientific meeting. I am keen to help BSIN deliver events that provide great education and networking opportunities for all IOM practitioners, and I look forward to meeting you at our events in the future!

– In audiology I am involved in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of hearing and balance disorders in adults. – In the spinal cord electrophysiology group I deliver spinal cord monitoring during scoliosis correction surgery.– Participating in the training of STP and PTP trainees. – Contributing to service development, audit and research within the department. – Co-ordinator and co-creator of the STH healthcare scientist trainee network.

– Training programme involving completion of an online portfolio demonstrating my clinical competency, an MSc in Neurosensory Science and undertaking an OSFA assessment.– Completion of training split between Sheffield and Bradford Teaching hospitals, giving me a broader range of experiences within audiology.– Completion of an elective involving engaging with multiple external organisations with important links to audiology e.g. social services, Specsavers, Teachers of the Deaf.– Assisting in the training of PTP trainees.– Contributing to service development, audit and research.– Assisted in the organisation of British Academy of Audiology 2015 conference.

– Responsible for planning, design and delivery of a new intranet site and populating it with content including live performance statistics.– Responsible for identification and implementation of new virtual office environment.– Day to day tasks also included project management, basic bookkeeping, data entry, stock management.

Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD): “The effects of ageing on microglial phenotypes and the central nervous system response to systemic inflammation” (thesis submitted, awaiting viva)Supervisors: Dr. Jessica Teeling and Professor Hugh Perry.Projects:– Determining the effects of a systemic LPS challenge on microglia in different regions of the young and aged CNS and on sickness behaviour. – Determining the effects of a live systemic S. typhimurium infection on microglia in different regions of the young and aged CNS, sickness behaviour and the integrity of the paranodal junction.– Followed a broad independent research program in neuroimmunology using a variety of in vivo and in vitro techniques and models.– Collection, analysis and presentation of data and participating in collaborations with several colleagues to produce data for publication. – Participating in the teaching of undergraduate practical courses and supervising undergraduate students during their dissertation projects.

– Participated in the design of teaching materials for and teaching of neuroscience practicals for undergraduate students.– Also have supervised several undergraduate students during their dissertations.

– Tasks include stock control and the planning, piloting and setting up of experiments for undergraduate courses involving cell culture, PCR and ELISA assays.– Skills acquired in this role included time management, planning and organisational skills.

– Tasks included assisting in demonstrations e.g. dissections, planning and setting up experiments, managing a population of drosophila and housekeeping duties.

– Based in the lead optimisation department of the respiratory and inflammatory centre for excellence and drug discovery.– Responsibilities included tissue collection, data collection using tissue bath pharmacology and in vitro chemotaxis assays, assay optimisation and compound profiling. – Other skills developed in this role included data analysis, presentation, teamworking and IT skills.
