I currently work in the biggest custody area in West Yorkshire on a shift pattern. I can be booking detained people into custody, complete their biometrics, process them, check that they ok whilst they are in the cells and l also work in the Custody control room. In addition to my normal role I'm trained to look after Counter Terrorism prisoners. I was required to undertaken extra training for this role due to the extra security considerations and the fact that under UK legislation we can detain them for significantly longer than normal prisoners. Along with my Counter Terrorism training I have completed my training to become a Peer Supporter, Professional Standards Welfare Supporter and a TRIM practitioner. This is because I want to be able to support my colleagues when they go through traumatic events whilst they are fulling their roles within the Police Service. Whilst I'm forfilling my role normal role as a Detention office l come across multiple different people from all different backgrounds, some can be very aggressive on under the influence of drink or drugs. Although l’m trained in control and restraint, the ideal solution though and what we are trained to do is claim the situation down, so the detained person is complicit out of choice, rather than restraining them .

There wasn’t a typical day as a Prison officer, but my daily tasks included unlocking and securing prisoners, gather and document intelligence. I ensured the correct checks were performed on prisoners that were on suicide/self-harm watch.I also performed role checks as well as cell checks to search for any contraband.I was trained to carry PAVA spray, perform cell extractions, fight cell fires, perform constant watches, escort prisoners to hospital appointments and when required restrain prisoners:I was also invited to interview to become a Control and Restraint Instructor within the Prison Service.

My role was to ensure the security of the prison. This was done by ensuring that only authorised people entered. I did this searching vehicles as well as anyone who entered the prison, l monitored CCTV, patrolled the Prison’s outer wall, escorted vehicles around the prison, monitored Prisoner’s communications and working in the Control centre, maintaining over all control of the Prison.

My main area of work was assessing students who were completing a Level 2 Retail skills Apprenticeship, as well as helping them complete a Level 2 in Maths and/or a Level 2 in English qualification(s) if they needed these additional qualifications.I covered a number of geographical areas, but spent most of my time covering the North of England on my own, this meant that l managed my caseload independently.

My main role was to advise customers on which bike and accessories would be best for them. This would mean that l would discuss their needs and the advantages as well as disadvantages of each product.I would up sell to customers products such as Service plans or upgraded products. Due to my skills in up selling l had won a couple of completions. I won a track day at Donington Race track and a bike ride with Chris Boardman.
