After gaining my degree I went to sea as an Engineer Officer. I worked on many types of ships all over the world for 8 years and gained my MCA limited Chiefs ticket. I came ashore and worked for a Yacht Builder in the USA and then a workboat builder in the UK as Naval Architect. I then joined the MCA as a Flag surveyor and Port State inspector. After 5 years I was promoted to head up the MCA's dedicated Large Yacht unit and to lead the transformation of this unit into a customer focused, consistent and financially viable department.
