Roles include:- Modification of existing, and generation of new experiments in essential to keep in line with the current technology.- Creation of budgets for future purchases and maintenance of lab equipment.- Maintenance of lab equipment including chemical, optical, radioactive and electrical components, along with the Workplace Health and Safety regulations.Scientific Computing Facility - Used by the Physics and Astronomy, Maths, and Engineering Departments, the PC Lab contains 24 computers for scientific modelling, research, and assessments. MQSIS grant funded the replacement of these computers in 2010 to bring the facility in line with the latest technology. My role is to understand the needs of the Academics who are using the facility to instruct the Undergraduates, and liaise with the Computing Department to create the computers and maintain them in working order. Astronomical Observatory - Used as a Research, Teaching and Outreach Facility, the MU Observatory has two domes encasing 16" and 12" remotely controlled Optical Telescope, and other smaller telescopes that can be operated by hand, along with a 3.5' Radio Telescope. Role includes calibration, alignment and purchase of equipment along with any day-to-day maintenance.
