I am a power plant Chemist at Cherokee Station, a natural gas fired plant supplying energy to the Denver area. My role is the management of all plant boiler, cooling, and waste water chemistry. This includes development of chemistry pilot and capital projects, chemical inventory management, environmental sampling and reporting, training, and acting as a subject matter expert within the plant and fleet.

New Sky Energy is a chemical solutions company that specializes in research, design, fabrication, installation, and operations of gas treatment plants for the O&G and biogas sectors. In particular New Sky has commercialized technology to treat sour gas from a variety of sources and have deployed over one million cubic feet per day of commercial sour natural gas treatment plants.My responsibilities primarily included management of our shop facilities and fabrication. From bench scale through commercial systems I managed the design, procurement, and actual fabrication of anything we did in-house. This included metal, plastic, and wood construction and machining with the use of the mill, lathe, hot gas plastic welder, and basic tools. Also included is pipe fitting from small diameter tube through large commercial size pipe in both metal and plastic. This fabrication and pipe fitting also extended to the field where I have been instrumental in the installation and commissioning of our systems at operational natural gas wells and gathering plants.Facilities management also involved space and logistics management for our slurry synthesis operations that supplied our units. This has included management of over 6000 gallons of delivered product under my direction.My responsibilities also included the duties of a research chemist including literature research, design of experiments, and extensive collaboration with coworkers to understand and direct work on multiple projects. In particular my experience with larger systems allowed for insights into directing research that is useful on commercial scales.I left New Sky amicably in November of 2016 due to relocation for my wife's work.

Design and implementation of novel chemical synthesis methods for the fuel sector. Responsibilities included generating new concepts and combining them with those of my superiors and coworkers, literature research, process design, experiment construction and running, data analysis, process refinement, scale up of the process from bench top to pilot scale, and generation of reports and patents along the way. Work was done both solo and in a multidisciplinary team and included some managerial duties.The skills utilized included literature searching and reading, physical reactor design and construction including plumbing and electronics, digital control systems integration, use of data analysis and modeling software, and patent writing.

Organic and polymer chemistry including basic science investigations and exploring new directions for organic photovoltaic materials. Also included teaching undergraduate chemistry labs, including General Chemistry, Quantitative Analysis and Analytical Chemistry.
