ChESST is a student organization dedicated to improving the safety culture in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering to facilitate greater health and safety, communication, and productivity for student researchers. We provide a means for communicating safety-related matters between faculty, safety professionals, and students and we host fun and educational events related to laboratory safety.

I created a pressure- and temperature-sensitive paint technique for coating aircrafts to perform advanced flow diagnostics by luminescent imaging.

Worked as an undergraduate researcher in the Ducree Laboratory at Dublin City University on a Naughton Fellowship. I worked on various microfluidic discs, assembling and testing them to determine whether or not they would function as expected. In the future, this simple technology could be used for a wide range of applications from blood separation to protein analysis to identification of cardiovascular disease. I performed proof of concept tests on various systems for microfluidic disc automation and valving. Additionally, I carried out lab-scale reactions as preparatory work for a future project that will determine the compositions of various contaminants in lake water.

I worked on various projects, typically involving hand soaps, tough soils cleansers, body lotions, and shampoos. In addition to general lab organization and assisting with stability testing, I worked on over 10 projects. A summary of these projects follows. • Formulated and tested a non-hazardous dirt to be used in tough soils panel testing such that it performs identically to the old dirt formulation• Identified a new method for testing viscosity to reduce waste of space and product by over 50% in stability testing• Discerned the water temperature required in creating a product such that the overall temperature would be 85°F• Modified formulations of existing shampoo products such that a higher percentage of manufacturing batches would have a viscosity within the specified range, and then oversaw creation of a pilot plant batch• Participated in creation, manufacturing, and analysis required by statistically designed experiments

I caddied during the summer for five years, enhancing my interpersonal skills by interacting with patrons and improving their golfing experience on a daily basis.
