I have been a nurse for several years. I started off as a registered nurse in Des Moines, working in the pediatric ICU. Afterwards, realizing I needed more experience before working in a higher acuity, setting I decided to come back to my hometown of Dubuque to gain some experience in a medical surgical setting, and begin working at Finley Hospital on a post surgical floor. I then went to work at a family practice, clinic in Cedar Rapids, Iowa thinking that it would be a better pace while in school for my masters degree. I did realize, however, that I needed more direct patient interaction and care before continuing on for a masters, with the concentration of acute care. I then decided that Endoscopy was a good fit because I enjoyed the procedures, and I would be able to be more directly involved in patient care. After 2 1/2 or three years of working with the Endoscopy department, I will begin masters work with the focus on acute care, nurse practitioner, and I’m currently enrolled and halfway through my program.
