I am a graduate of the Engineering Physics program at the University of Alberta. Following my passion for physics and science, I also completed a MSc degree with a research focus on the theoretical and experimental exploration of noise theory, element decoupling in receive arrays and the ultimate obtainable signal-to-noise in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (3 associated journal publications). Following this I applied my skills in RF engineering and electromagnetic simulation and design to a research assistant position at the University of Alberta working on antenna arrays and radar for liquid level and permittivity measurement (3 associated journal publications and 1 patent), and the exploration of a novel method of single conductor power transfer for charging and sensor applications (1 patent and 1 associated journal publication).I completed my PhD at the University of Sheffield in a leading research group working on magnetic resonance lung imaging with inhaled hyperpolarized gases. I was key in designing, building and testing RF hardware and coils for the fluorinated gas imaging. I was responsible for running the study of MR parameters with inhaled fluorinated gases in humans at the University of Sheffield. (4 associated journal publications to-date)Currently, I am working as a postdoctoral researcher designing, simulating and building meta-material liners for ultra-high field and 3T MRI. This research will demonstrate improved image homogeneity with improved excitation efficiency of the MRI signal, which has been the main challenge in moving to increased field strengths in MRI.
