I love making the built environment more efficient and sustainable. It is my largest opportunity to personally help preserve both nature and climate. I have a unique perspective that was founded on the practical foundation of farming and home building. It was later enhanced at a non-profit that focused applied research in pursuit of outcome based building performance. I now apply this knowledge toward a performance-based design approach; one that analyzes the goals up front, employs easy to understand design solutions, and measures success during operations. In this way, every building project moves toward an efficient and prosperous outcome the moment that the pencil first hits the paper.More formally, I have a master's degree in engineering and am a licensed professional mechanical engineer. My past experience includes the design, energy modeling, and commissioning of high-rise office, higher education, and science and technology projects. I also served as director of energy consulting for a non-profit organization, where my work included a national initiative with the Department of Energy that promoted performance-based procurement and offered a path to zero energy design.
