My job duties include maintenance and repair of the ship's fuel oil service & transfer, water production, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical (24V, 120V, 220V, 440V) Systems. I was also responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of the ship's boiler and steam system. These maintenance procedures included everything from changing out burner tips, washing steam tubes, dry and wet lay up shut downs, to steam soot blowing/tube cleaning as well as steam and condensate system maintenance.

I am a full member of MEBA union which provides job and social network services for engineering jobs on merchant marine ships. The union has many contracts with different companies who I have worked for in the last 5 years. I have sailed on several different types of ships with different main engine and auxiliary engine propulsion and power systems. Through MEBA I have upgraded my Engineering License once to Second Assistant Engineer from Third Assistant Engineer. My Job responsibilities vary a little from ship to ship however they mostly include maintenance and repair of the ship's systems and equipment. I track and maintain the machinery run hours, parts used or consumed, the maintenance schedule, as well as any corrective maintenance that is necessary.
