Monitoring and recording breeding populations of Mauritius Kestrel (Falco punctatus). Once one of the worlds most endangered birds, with just 4 individuals remaining. Thanks to the work of the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation and partners there are now ~200 individuals in the wild.Responsible for:- Using standardised research methods to collect data on breeding behaviour, daily nest counts, fledging counts, nest productivity/ mortality assessments, predator and human disturbance monitoring and climate/weather recording.- Identifying ringed individuals, ringing adults and chicks, morphological recording.- Safe handling of adults and chicks.- Harvesting of eggs for hand rearing and translocation.- Pest and predator control.- Accessing tree and cliff nest cavities using a rope and harness.- Working and navigating in dense tropical forest, with steep gradients, challenging terrain and rapidly changeable tropical weather.- Engagement with landowners, stakeholders, funders and governmental/non governmental bodies.- Data collection and management, maintaining databases, keeping accurate written and computerised records.- Project report writing.- Maintenance of field camp.-Off road driving of 4x4s and motorbikes. -Vehicle maintenance.- Personal time and workload management.-Working in a diverse, multinational and multidisciplinary team.
