SQL DBA

I look after 22 SQL instances at Coller Capital, the majority of which are SQL2012. We also have a few older 2008 instances. A large part of my role involves Production DBA tasks.Daily tasks involve ensuring all the backups have completed successfully during the night and also making sure the large number of jobs and maintenance tasks that are set up have all completed successfully.I currently work in a 2 man DBA team, but have also have to manage working alone for periods of time.Responsible for Production DBA support and administration.Managing the environments for Development, Test, UAT and ProductionSupporting the bespoke powershell auto deployment scriptsI often have to work closely with the Data Warehouse team to help diagnose problems and performance issues with their SSIS packages and various ETL stored procedures they run. Ensure that databases maintain acceptable levels of performance, integrity and security in line with agreed company standards.Ensure integrity of our backup and DR solutionsReact to system monitoring and address issues in a timely manner.I am responsible for maintaining our security model on all our SQL servers to ensure integrity and protection of all our dataPerform upgrades and patching of database ServersProvide on-call support as required.

I look after 35 SQL instances at Amlin in Chelmsford, and was part of a larger 8 man DBA team in Amlin London who look after several hundred instances.Release management all the way through the lifecycle from development to test to production.Producing data fix scripts for the Production copy of our Motor Insurance Database that is exported daily to Experian. This is critical data and has a very short time to supply. Responsible for releases and changes to our web based front ends on IIS 6 and 7Larger releases to production also require changes to the Framework and web front end via PowerShell scripts; this will take place out of hours and often involves me working weekends or evenings.Maintaining existing and new scheduled jobs and maintenance tasks.Deploying Reports with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).

Use of NetApp System Manager to manage our 4 FAS2050 filers (2 onsite and 2 in our Hosted data centre).VMWare vSphere Client to maintain and manage all of our Virtual Servers. Creating new VMs and maintaining our ESX hosts.Maintain our SQL servers and databasesExchange 2010 administration and daily maintenance in all areasKaspersky Security Center 9 management of over 2700 workstations and serversActive Directory incl. DNS, DHCP and Group Policy.Backup Exec 2012 to manage our SAN and Exchange 2010 backups on our HP MSL tape library. Create backup and restore jobs as well as label/inventory tapes.

Acting as the first point of escalation for our 2nd Line team and ensuring that we have consistency over our technical resolutions.Problem Management and Knowledge-base.Helping 3rd Line Support on projects and/or tasks when required.Travelling to sites to carry out site visits when required.Helping to train new 2nd Line staff when needed.Building and deploying new Branch Servers.Acting as on-site SQL DBAMaintaining the Helpdesk Databases SQL tables and MS Access front end.
