It also includes providing senior leadership on rollingstock issues through effective strategy formulation and delivery of engineering and maintenance solutions to continuously improve rollingstock availability and reliability.It involves leading and driving a commercial focus across Queensland Rail's Rollingstock engineering and maintenance services in-line with industry best practice to provide greater efficiencies and cost savings. Part of the Queensland Government, Queensland Rail operates suburban and long-distance passenger services and owns and maintains approximately 8,000 kilometres of track throughout Queensland.Responsible for providing investigation and assurance expertise to the Group Executive Safety Risk and Assurance, the CEO and the Queensland Rail Board relating to Queensland Rail’s compliance with safety and environmental standards and legislation.Accountable for ensuring that commitments in Queensland Rail’s Enforceable Voluntary Undertaking with the Rail Safety Regulator were met and verified independently. Key responsibilities included ensuring that all serious safety incidents were suitably investigated across Queensland Rail, with root causes identified and actions undertaken to prevent incidents from reoccurring as well as sharing lessons from these incidents across the organisation. Managed the corporate wide safety assurance program (and assurance regulatory interface) that drove performance, compliance and improvements across all aspects of Queensland Rail’s business.

Glng Project, Queensland, Australia

Gladstone LNG (GLNG) was a $20 billion project to turn gas from coal seams into liquefied natural gas (LNG) for SANTOS LNG.Responsible for ensuring that safe commissioning and start up activities were in place across the project during the commissioning and start-up of Trains 1 and 2. Liaised directly with the client, the regulator and the project leadership team and supervised four direct reports.Took the lead on complicated process safety and construction related investigations and achieved system improvements to prevent re-occurrence. Implemented policy improvements, carried out audits and risk management reviews and developed data management systems to drive improvement in leading and lagging indicators across the project.

Qclng Project, Queensland, Australia

Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) was a $20 billion project to turn gas from coal seams into LNG for BG Group. Responsible for safe and environmentally sound commissioning and start up activities across the project. Helped ensure that Train 1 and 2 were safely and successfully commissioned in record time, resulting in the safe production of LNG three months ahead of schedule.Headed up complex investigations and was responsible for regulator, client and internal stakeholder management relating to these investigations. Managed an ES&H CSU team of seven direct reports, an environment team with two direct reports and the project ERT.

Caval Ridge Coal Mine Project, Queensland, Australia

Responsible for Environment, Safety & Health on the four billion dollar Caval Ridge Coal Mine project, including directly managing a team of 17 environmental and safety advisors as well as being responsible for ensuring the safety of four thousand contractors working on the project. Managed the ES&H strategy for this major infrastructure project from feasibility phase through to practical completion, encompassing contractor selection and onboarding, construction, pre-commissioning, start up and support to the client commissioning process on both a greenfield and then an operational site. Achieved an industry leading injury rate of 5.4 million hours and one year worked lost time injury free.

Prx2020 Project, Queensland, Australia

PRX2020 was a proposed multi-billion dollar port and rail expansion in the Bowen Basin area of Queensland for BHP Billiton. Responsible for setting up and establishing the safety and environmental requirements for the project and establishing ES&H contract conditions for all project contractors managing construction inputs for the EIA. During this six month secondment from the Caval Ridge Project, managed ES&H evaluation of all construction tenders relating to the project and develop recommendations for successful bidders.

Mining & Metal Global Business Unit, Brisbane, Australia

Responsible for overseeing environmental management on Bechtel’s Mining and Metal projects worldwide, including Chile, Peru, North America and Australia. Managed environmental components of studies prior to the execution of these projects, including development of projects in Chile, Africa, Australia, North America, Indonesia and PNG. The role included recruitment, consultant management, project support, auditing, business development and implementing process improvements, in addition to achieving accreditation to ISO 14001.

Etihad Railway Project, Abu Dhabi, Uae

Set up the ES&H Management system for the 1000km Etihad Railway Project, including client liaison, gaining client approval and developing and implementing the project HSE plan.Prepared the contract scope, completed the tender evaluation and supported the award of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the entire rail network. Managed the delivery of the EIA for the Shah-Habshan Project (260km) for submission to EAD (Abu Dhabi Environmental Regulator). In addition, managed the traffic study for freight and passenger forecasts for the operational railway to inform design requirements and assist in developing a business case for construction of the railway.

Crossrail Central Project, London, Uk

Set up and established the Environmental Management System on the Crossrail Central Rail Project (construction of 21km of twin bored 6m diameter railway tunnel under the centre of London and 6 new stations) to ensure Client EIA requirements were delivered across the project. Supported consent applications and environmental design management, oversaw environmental management across the project and supported construction contract development.Supported audit and development of the Crossrail Central Safety Management System to ensure compliance with OHSAS 18001, including safety audits of designers, site safety inspections and behavioural safety observations on contractors

Bechtel Civil Global Business Unit, London, Uk

Responsible for environmental management of Bechtel Civil’s portfolio of projects worldwide, including a deep sea port, an airport and an industrial city in the Middle East, motorway projects in Albania and Romania and rail projects in the UK, UAE and USA in addition to providing functional safety support, safety reporting and auditing across the same projects, acting as deputy to the global safety manager. This included corporate reporting, consultant management and project support activities, professional development of environmental specialists, auditing projects for ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 compliance, project recruitment, supporting bids and implementing EMS process improvements.

Wembley National Stadium Project / Westfield London Project, London, Uk

Responsible for managing environmental issues on the prestigious Wembley National Stadium Project in addition to the Westfield London redevelopment, the largest urban retail project within Europe at that time. This included setting project environmental standards and liaising with Local Authorities, the Environment Agency and other environmental stakeholders. Ensured contractors complied with environmental and safety requirements as well as managing consultants and supporting employee development and graduate mentorship.

Thameslink Programme, London, Uk

Responsible for helping to ensure the continued development of the Thameslink Programme EMS and delivery of the revised 2004 EIA. Managed EIA specialist consultants prior to writing the EIA for the Outer Area of the Thameslink Programme. Wrote the contaminated land and the water resources specialist reports for the Thameslink EIA. In addition, developed the project EMS, reviewed contractor environmental management plans, audited contractors and established KPI reporting systems.

Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining an Environmental Management System to ISO 14001 standard. Established an ISO 14001 based EMS from concept to implementation.Prior to taking on the EMS Role in 2000, Responsible for developing, implementing, certifying and maintaining a Quality Management System to ISO 9002 standard across water supply operations in four counties in the southeast of England.
