I worked at the BBC between 1988 and 2001 as a journalist, producer, series producer and executive producer. I joined the BBC on its prestigious and highly competitive News Trainee Scheme in the fall of 1988. I subsequently worked in BBC national radio and television news, Breakfast News, the BBC Belfast newsroom and in BBC Current Affairs. In the period 1988-92 I worked at the heart of BBC news journalism during the upheavals of the end of Communism. In BBC Current Affairs I specialised in investigative journalism, in particular while working at Panorama. In 1993 I broke the biggest police corruption story in a generation following a 6 month investigation. The programme, The Case of India One, was credited with having restored Panorama’s reputation for hard-hitting journalism. It led to a complete overhaul of the Metropolitan Police’s anti-corruption activities and a long prison sentence for the guilty police detective. I also worked on a series of inside-track investigations during the Northern Ireland peace process. In 1995 I series produced The Food Chain which broke for TV the story of GM food and examined in depth the growing power of the supermarkets for the first time. The series was singled out in that year’s BBC Annual Report as the most successful Current Affairs programme of the year.On lighter notes I made the first behind the scenes documentary with Alan Sugar, discovering him as a TV talent, an opportunity not taken up by the BBC at the time! I rebranded Great Britain in 1997 for a BBC programme gaining coverage all over the world. My last job for the BBC was producing and directing the landmark series The Wealth of Man, which tracked human economic history from the stone age to the present day. The series was filmed on five continents after airing on BBC2 was shown all over the world.After joining the independent sector I continued working as an executive producer on BBC projects in TV, radio and digital
