Leading research of BIJEL (Bi – Continuous Interfacially Jammed Emulsion Gels) materials. Currently pioneering new AFM (atomic force microscopy) techniques to quantify colloidal particle interactions in BIJEL's. With this project I have also developed data analysis and statistical tools to examine experimental data. Accredited published article is en route to publication.Finished oil kinetics research started by previous students. Optimized experimentation and performed statistical analysis into cavity replacement. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.colsurfa.2021.126436

May 2019 - Jun 2022

Tissue Engineering Lead Researcher

As a lab we are employing Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell (iPSC) and Decellularlized Extra Cellular Matrix (ECM) technologies to hopefully construct viable kidney tissue with no immunological rejection. This technology is innovative and has great promise going forward. By following Good Lab Practices (GLP) including proper bio-safety cabinet operation we successfully cultured iPSC's, HUVEC's, and RCTE's for differentiation and testing and we also successfully differentiated iPSC's into kidney progenitor structures (glomeruli and bowman's capsules).Because of the length of differentiation (30 days) and the very time sensitive nature of the differentiation, project management principles needed to be used to ensure success so timelines, gantt charts, and strict schedules were created and adhered to. As a lab we parsed through several technical research documents along with their protocols to prepare for our own testing and we also performed a complex cost analysis of the endeavor. For the decellularized ECM side of the project we visited local abattoirs and collected pig kidneys. I helped decellularize a handful of kidneys in a in-house bioreactor which used a novel solution cycle of SDS water, NaCl water, and Deionized water to remove the existing cells.

May 2016 - Jun 2018

Biocompatibility Engineering Lead Researcher

Through collaboration with other professors we were able to conduct biocompatibility testing on poly ethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA) microfluidic devices adhering with ISO regulations. The collaboration also yielded 10k USD in grant funding. https://doi.org/10.1021/acsabm.0c00055Good Lab Practices (GLP) followed including proper bio-safety cabinet operation and successful cell culture of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC's) for testing. We developed novel ways of performing the tests because of limiting factors and material constraints. We had to sift through and apply all the ISO guidelines including ISO 10993-1, ISO 10993-5, and ISO 10993-12. Weekly conference meetings were a great opportunity to present research findings in a professional setting and to collaborate between different research labs.

May 2017 - Sep 2017

Outreach Director

Organized and lead efforts to reach out to companies, professors, and students. Collaborated and hosted several local Biomedical companies at club events, symposiums, and company info sessions. What I loved most about this experience was the opportunity to work with great people representing great companies not to mention providing opportunities for all those involved.

Sep 2017 - May 2018

Organo-Metallic Catalyst Decomposition Research Associate

Chemistry Department

We conducted photo-catalytic reaction experimentation using a state-of-the-art YAG laser and FTIR spectroscopy set up to map the reactions in real time. The actual imaging of the reactions required complex laser, optic, and pump system set up and operation. IR spectral data collection and analysis were a large part of the overall research. Also, complex solution preparation and the handling of hazardous materials were involved.
