When I started my apprenticeship back in 2002 I started machining on a bridgeport xyz manual mill with a power feed that didn't work. I then started programming and setting a bridgeport interact with TNC 155 controls and a 4th axis (we still have this machine and I still enjoy using it as a backup). I now programme and set 3,4 and 5 axis machines with heidenhein and haas controls. Also in my current job role I am a team leader in implementing 5S and am NVQ level 3 in BIT. I have played a key role in achieving SC21 silver in Groveley, we have a 100% OTIF and a 99.987% quality rate. I have been using edgecam to design and create a product which shall be going to market soon. We also use edgecam to produce intricate parts with freeform faces. We have 3D printers which we have used to make our prototypes before milling and turning.I have completed a project management course which has helped in the process of bringing an idea to life.When the operations manager is on holiday I take over the role and keep the day to day running of the workshop in order. This involves quoting, customer contact, planning and staff management.I am directly involved with the apprentices education.Engineering has changed loads in the 14 years I have been doing it and look forward to getting involved with new additive layer machines that may replace mills and lathes.
