I was employed by Morrison Utility Services to work on the Southern Water planned and reactive works contract based in East Sussex. Our role as Project Engineers was split between the two major works streams (reactive & planned). Our role as Project Engineers was split between the two major works streams (reactive & planned). Within the reactive work stream we attended emergencies as requested by the SW duty managers, initially providing immediate temporary solutions in the interim whilst we progressed permanent solutions. Issues could range from simple matters such as pump failures, to whole site electrical failures. Reactive projects could range from £5k to £500k dependant on the level of the issue. The planned works stream is as the name suggests planned projects, I managed projects at both Wivelsfield & Eastbourne. Wivelsfield was a two phase upgrade to the site, the first phase was to introduce ferric chloride dosing and to refurbish the filter beds in order to meet the requirements of the new EA discharge permits. The second phase of the project was to construct a new pumping station on site to facilitate additional flows and an upgraded tertiary treatment process (£2 million). Eastbourne was a collection of projects all attributed to maintaining site compliance and upgrading various process streams. Project included replacement of tank internals, replacement of pumps, new screenings processes, new dosing systems along with a large amount of reactive works that had to be undertaken due to failing items of plant. I started my career with CEMA Ltd as an electrical engineering apprentice, initially starting in the CAD department. This allowed me to build up my knowledge and skills for using AutoCAD & RS wire and to improve my abilities for reading electrical schematic diagrams. After a relatively short period of time I progressed into the installations department becoming responsible for carrying out project management & electrical design compliant with all relevant specifications for site cabling… Show more I started my career with CEMA Ltd as an electrical engineering apprentice, initially starting in the CAD department. I was responsible for changing designs as required to suit alterations on site, responsible for guiding the electricians when they had technical queries, surveying varying aspects of site to aid in design & attending progress meeting with the client to discuss progress.
