Currently taking on some additional responsibilities supporting our DevOps function due to loss of resources. Allow me to gain some additional experience working with technologies that didn't really exist last time I did work in this area. Most notably Ansible and AWS.I've taken the opportunity to help improve the deployment model for our software application, my unique position spanning the DevOps, Software Development and Product teams allows me to approach the problems from multiple angles to ensure the best outcome.Also continuing my efforts to improve the Software Development process I've been improving our CI systems, looking to improve the way that the Software team produces releases and feeds them into the Operations team for delivery to production.

We spend a lot of time understanding customers problems and trying to tailor the best solution to their problems.My main responsibility is in capturing the requirements we get from out customers and partners, helping to shape the overall solution, factoring required development into the product road-map and working with our world class engineering team to ensure the product is delivered to our customers exacting standards.However as we're still a small / lean outfit, I also put my extensive engineering experience to good use by helping to work on the overall product and software architectures, providing an interface between our engineering team and the wider company and even helping with systems integration and fault diagnostics work.

Took on additional responsibility of leading the Software team for a couple of months whilst we recruited replacement for previous occupant and also allowed for a smooth handover once the position was filled.During my time I spent a lot of time and effort sorting out a basic development process, cleaning up and improving our use of JIRA to aid in generation of more accurate and dynamic planning.

I mostly worked on the requirements capture, architectural design and initial software framework of one of the key safety components of the system.Unfortunately I found it hard to adapt to the backwards step in seniority and couldn't see any obvious opportunities to progress back to where I wanted to be to achieve my current 5 year plan. However it was still an enjoyable role and taught me a lot about myself and my abilities, which will stand me in good stead for the future.I can also say that CMR are a great company to work for and would strongly recommend them to anyone looking to work on a really exciting embedded / medical product that is likely to take the world by storm in the coming months.

Telensa are the market leader in Street-lighting remote control and monitoring systems and are now expanding into more general "Smart Cities" and Low Power WAN applications.I manage the Embedded Software Team, responsible for the development of our embedded products, proprietary UNB radio protocol stack and aspects of the lower levels of system software (Linux platforms).I have extensive experience in software design/architecture, embedded development (particularly with low end ARM micro-controllers and Linux x86 systems) and radio protocol design. I spent the vast majority of my time at Plextek developing the proprietary Ultra Narrow Band (UNB) radio stack. This included development at all levels of the stack, primarily in the remote outstation, but I was also involved in development of several improvements throughout the rest of the system. I subsequently transferred to the spin off company Telensa, the major user of the stack, to manage their implementation.I was also involved in several other embedded software projects, including:- Linux device driver and application development for class room teaching aid.- Driver and application development for Android based car infotainment system- Software development for multi band, multi channel radio test systemI was also influential in introducing several significant improvements to the Plextek software development process. Including:- Transition from VSS to Subversion for source control- Introduction of issue tracking tool (mantis)

During my time with BAE I worked at their corporate research facility in Filton in the Advanced Information Processing department. The department was focused on the development of intelligent software systems. I was involved in several projects, including:- Development of Behaviour control system for autonomous robot- Development of Kalman filter based navigation system- Development of Collision avoidance system for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)*- Development of Bayesian network for intelligent decision system.**- Development of Distributed sensor network and data fusion system.- Development of control system for early prototype of next generation bomb disposal vehicle (Cutlass).
