At the age of 19, I began my career in aviation engineering with the Royal Navy, a journey that has now spanned over 20 years. My core expertise lies in working with the Merlin EH-101 aircraft, having supported active operations overseas aboard aircraft carriers and Type 23 frigates.In 2019, I took on a new challenge as a section head on HMS Queen Elizabeth, leading the integration of the Highly Mechanised Weapon Handling System (HMWHS) into full operational capability. This role required close collaboration with industry partners and represented a significant learning experience, one I am proud to have contributed to as a key player.In 2015, alongside my full-time service, I ventured into aerial photography, becoming an avid hobbyist using early DJI drones. This passion grew into a modest business in 2016 after obtaining my PfAW (later PfCO) licence for commercial operations. I had moderate success with estate agency imagery, promotional projects, weddings, and aerial surveys. However, balancing a military career and family commitments led to the closure of the company in 2019. Nonetheless, this experience cemented my interest in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) operations.In 2023, after several years of seeking a position with the Royal Navy’s first UAS squadron, 700X, I joined the team. Shortly after, I was part of the first group of maintenance engineers assigned to work on the Royal Navy’s newest airframe, the Peregrine—a modified variant of the S-100 Camcopter. I successfully completed a Level 3 Maintenance qualification following a factory course with Schiebel in Austria, and I continue to play a role in the project’s development.In addition to my military career, I manage Walking Cornwall, a prominent social media platform dedicated to promoting Cornwall’s tourism. With over 150,000 Instagram followers and 10,000 on Facebook, the platform has become a key marketing tool. It has allowed me to engage in my interests in marketing, advertising, and photography, while building a vibrant community and collaborating with PR groups both locally and beyond.
