Simply put, I love learning. I love reading and writing and exploring new ideas. I love being so wrapped up in an idea or topic that everything else fades away. I love understanding more about what makes people who they are and why we all think and act the way we do. And I love sharing learning with others. Throughout my career, I have worked hard to share and foster my love of learning in my students. As a teacher of juniors and seniors, It is my goal to see my students achieve greater independence in their abilities as readers, writers, thinkers, and communicators. It also means a lot to me when I see my students overcome an obstacle, whether it be academic or personal. I have a soft spot for the underdogs and underrepresented. I believe reading and writing and sharing our stories can and does make the world a better place. As of the spring of 2019, I have 13 years of experience teaching literature and writing. I have also sponsored several student organizations, including a literary magazine (5 years), National Honor Society (7 years), and our school's Gay-Straight Alliance (12 years). I have taught ACT prep classes in English and Reading for 10 years. American Literature and YA/modern literature are my strong suits. I love encouraging students to find new pathways in their writing and consider "non-standard" writing instruction to be an area of expertise. I have also been involved with the AIW program (three years) and completed their coach training in 2010. I have been involved in several curriculum development cycles and have experience in scales development, curriculum mapping, rubric development, teacher leadership, and assessment design and alignment.
