For the past 7 years, I have coached across a broad area within the sports industry. Working and supported individuals, both at primary and secondary schools, with a broad spectrum of abilities, including but not exclusively, SEN and undergraduate students. This role has allowed me to understand neurodiversity better and ensure that I support each individual's program in a manner that is tailored to their needs and inclusive, but that, ultimately, provides them with the optimum amount of challenge to grow and learn. During this time, I have also worked in the Clinical sector with NHS patients, professional athletes, as well as other professional organisations. My role involved coaching, planning and delivering strength and conditioning content, which helped with promoting personal development, physical activity and fundamental movements. The vast amount of experience I gained through working with different individuals in various contexts has allowed me to develop my communication and listening skills and problem-solving skills based on each individual's needs. It has also allowed me to see their progress through my attention to detail, holistic thinking and positive psychology. As part of the Laboratory/Coaching Assistant team, I have gained in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of sports science, including physiology, psychology, and biomechanics. My role in the department consisted of supporting head lecturers in conducting physiological and biomechanical tests for sports performance; more specifically, through developing and delivering strength & conditioning programs to Plymouth raiders (professional basketball team). This role has allowed me to gain practical knowledge of assessment processes and to be able to set up specific goals, monitor and review progress to ensure athletes achieved their best performance. My military career allowed me to develop observational skills, time management and attention to detail, in combination with understanding how to communicate and deliver lessons that were inclusive to all learning abilities, developmental stages and ethnicities. In turn, the knowledge and experience I gained related to how to deliver information effectively across different contexts and individual differences have helped me improve as a coach/ teacher. I have a BSc in Strength and Conditioning, specifically physiology, biomechanics and coaching. FdSc in Sports, coaching and health & fitness, I have developed a great understanding of Sports Psychology and coaching styles to get the best out of each individual I coach.
