A trained musician whose band once needed a website, I'm now a professional software engineer with over 15 years of experience building web applications for the likes of Google, The BBC, the UK and US Governments, the odd bank, Aardman Animations, Protocol Labs, and my own ventures www.axiogrow.com and www.fruitcakeapp.co.uk.I helped to build Potato London, a web development agency, from 5 people to 100 people in under 5 years. I'm a confident public speaker, and have talked at conferences, on podcasts and in debates. I have experience leading, guiding and mentoring developers in a variety of team sizes, as well as doing formal appraisals and pay reviews. I'm equally adept at managing a team of one (myself) with effective time management, task management and self-discipline. But mostly I love solving problems and building things.I write code which solves the problems that it needs to, and doesn't solve other problems that it doesn't need to. Almost as much as I love writing code, I love adding comments to the code so that the next person (or future me) can understand why it does what it does, or least understand what it was intended to do.
