As a research assistant in the UW School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences, I worked with two graduate students in Willapa Bay, WA. We were analyzing how the fishing practices of the crab and oyster industries were overlapping and conflicting. Our project was designed to analyze the habitats which both fisheries used, the potential effects of pesticide spraying on the oyster beds and the general biology of the affected animals. My duties included collecting raw data, processing the field samples in our laboratory, cataloging and interpreting the data using Excel and statistical programs.
