I have a PhD in Learning Sciences and Human Development from the College of Education, at the University of Washington (2021). My current work is centered on adult learning and trade-related learning pathways for the IAM 751 Union at The Boeing Company. My academic focus is on blurring the lines between formal and informal education spaces with learners, educators, and communities. Also, my experiences as a public educator drive my perspective that learning is most successful when local stakeholders support restorative relationships between learners, community members, and families.I've taught multiple undergraduate courses and graduate courses in education in the UW College of Education and IslandWood graduate program. As a postdoctoral fellow in Peabody College at Vanderbilt University I was the project manager for the Representations for Teachers as Learners (RepTaLs) project, and I am an adjunct professor in the Secondary Education Department/Program at Vanderbilt and UW.I've engaged in research and instructional support with Mobile City Science and Off the Map[p]. I spent nearly five years as a research assistant in the Information School working with teens at Pacific Science Center in Discovery Corps to develop a digital badge system related to workplace and science skill development. Before beginning my doctoral studies at UW, I was a public high school English teacher in central Illinois (2007-14), and I earned a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Illinois at Springfield (2013).
