Head of Organisational Learning & Safety Innovation | Passionate about Continuous ImprovementAs the Head of Organisational Learning & Safety Innovation at a leading light rail operator in London, I am dedicated to creating a safer, more efficient railway for colleagues and passengers through continuous learning and innovative safety practices.I lead the development of principles and processes that enable us to learn from all operations. This includes pioneering restorative culture practices, conducting Learning Reviews, and spearheading a progressive, value-adding approach to safety and quality assurance. These initiatives not only enhance safety but also support broader organisational objectives. One of my proudest achievements is the successful implementation of our Restorative Just Culture and Learning Review approach. By adopting a language-first strategy, we fostered a more trust-based and caring culture, recognising that "words create worlds." This shift, inspired by Crista Vesel, transformed our language from one that hinders learning to one that promotes inquiry and growth.I thrive on building trust and strong relationships, believing they are the cornerstones of a robust safety management approach. My expertise in risk management, human factors, and facilitation allows me to communicate complex safety concepts effectively to both senior managers and frontline staff. I believe that safety is a social purpose for organisations, and should be fully integrated with drives for greater equity, inclusion and well-being.My ultimate goal is to help organisations embrace the latest safety theories and practices to enhance their performance and safety outcomes. I have had the privilege of presenting at numerous UK and international conferences, sharing my insights on enabling learning through language change and trust-building.A highlight of my career was collaborating on the first iteration of the Flight Safety Foundation's Learning From All Operations white paper with Dr Erik Hollnagel and Dr Steven Shorrock. I have also contributed to respected publications such as the BALPA safety magazine and Eurocontrol's Hindsight magazine and have been featured on several prominent safety podcasts.Additionally, I am a founder member and committee member of the Global Safety Innovation Summit (GSIS), which held its inaugural event in Wollongong, NSW, Australia, in February 2024, attracting over 500 attendees.
