Beginning in January 2018, I worked as an Academic Advising Coordinator at Middlesex County College. My main responsibility was advising students on their academic plans and goals. I met on average with fifteen to twenty students per day, and while I assisted most students academically, I also provided support by discussing their career goals. Although the advising center meets with students on a walk-in basis, I always made sure to give students my information in order to maintain a connection with them in case problems arose. I acted as a liaison with several departments on campus, including Financial Aid, Transfer Services, Enrollment Management, and the Registrar, and helped direct students to the appropriate help. I helped identify and deliver strategies for students who were at risk, whether on Academic Probation, Restriction, or Suspension, by providing guidance on what next steps should be taken.

As the Lab Services Coordinator for the Dr. Tim Schacker research group, my primary responsibility was the analysis of stained HIV-infected tissues. Other responsibilities included performing daily setup functions, interpreting and documenting analysis results, and helping maintain comprehensive patient information databases and histological digital image servers. I regularly provided the research group with analysis updates at weekly meetings, and communicated to the Principal Investigator and Lab Manager any improvements that would be beneficial to the lab, including inventory and equipment purchases.

As a Technical Engineer, I provided support for the Electronic and Energy Group Lab by preparing mini Insulated Glazed Units (IGUs) for weathering testing, and then analyzed these samples using different techniques. I collaborated with other departments in improving our product and supported them through product characterization (e.g., thermogravimetric analysis, ellipsometry, and viscometry techniques) as well as qualitative analysis. As I monitored these tests, I regularly updated our team at weekly meetings and also collaborated with others in the team in identifying improvements needed for the product.

As an Instrumentation Technician I was responsible for repairs and maintenance of lab instrumentation for the Biology, Chemistry, and Geosciences departments, and advised faculty and student researchers on instrumentation needs and technical guidance. I was responsible for researching and purchasing a new GC-MS for the Chemistry department. I taught two courses (General Chemistry lab and Intro to Earth Science lab) and was an active member on three committees (Academic Quality Improvement Program, 5-Year ACS Review, and Emergency Control).

As a Chemist, I tested, analyzed, and certified fuel source materials including coal, biomass, petcoke and metcoke. I received certification for the LECO TruSpec CHN Analyzer and the LECO AC-600 Semi- Automatic Isoperibol Calorimeter. Aside from analyzing samples, I prepared solutions for tests and performed general upkeep of the lab. I collaborated with several other lab technicians in providing consistent quality service for our customers, and identified and quickly fixed any problems that arose.

During my time at Valparaiso University I completed an internship with Jonathan Schoer, Ph. D. in which I performed both field and laboratory Water Quality analysis on the Valparaiso Chain of Lakes watershed. The parameters tested included DO levels, pH, Phosphorus, Nitrate/Nitrite amounts, E. coli screening, and more. I presented the research at several conferences and helped establish a baseline for future research.
