I was actively involved in quality assurance, creating an excellent patient experience, physician and MLP recruitment, hospital and community relations, EMS, development, and a variety of other activities designed to support our clients, patients, physicians and APPs. My role grew to include not only contract management but also special projects and assignments.

As Executive Vice President for EmCare's West Division, I provided support and leadership for Regional Medical Directors, Directors of Clinical Services, Divisional Client Administrators, Medical Directors, Advance Practice Providers, and other healthcare leaders. My responsibilities included P and L management, leadership development, divisional client support, quality, physician and practice management, hospital and community relations, EMS, sales, special projects, and contract management. I also served as the EVP for West Division recruiting and I was the Senior Medical Director for APPs. In addition to my EVP duties and responsibilities, I continue to actively practice emergency medicine, provide Regional Medical Director support to select clients, and provide EMS medical direction to several 911 and transfer services.

When health care providers submit claims to insurance companies, the insurers often make partial (under and late payments) that, in the aggregate, result in millions of dollars lost each year to the health care providers. In 2003, the Texas Legislature passed the Texas Prompt Pay Act to protect health care providers from this practice. This act is part of the Texas Insurance Code.Under this Act, the insurer must pay or deny a claim in whole or in part within 30 days (45 days if the claim was submitted in a non-electronic form). If an insurer fails to promptly pay as required under the Act, the health care provider is entitled to payment of the contracted rates, statutory penalties and, in some cases, interest along with attorney fees and costs. You may wonder why such claims are generally not pursued by health care providers. The simple answer is that it is too time-intensive and costly for a health care provider to seek to hold an insurer accountable for each individual claim submitted. However, we have developed a cost effective way to assist health care providers to recover the money owed to them.
