Pitched and managed grant-funded projects in collaboration with ProPublica, SolutionsJournalism Network and James Irvine Foundation that supported.

Anchored The Bee's popular state worker coverage in the newspaper's Capitol Bureau. Kept tabs on unions, public pensions, government spending and the operations of dozens of state departments.

Tacoma, Wash.

Developed strong source relationships and employed public records to cover soldier suicides, the VA, military spending and notorious war crimes. Embedded with soldiers in southern Afghanistan in 2012. Won national and regional awards for military coverage, feature writing and enterprise reporting.

Covered violence and politics during three assignments for the McClatchy Baghdad Bureau. Traveled to Japan and Guam in 2015 to report on conflicts between the American military and its host communities.
