The Vice President for Digital Strategy and Innovation provides insight, develops strategy, and leads significant structural and programmatic development for the University’s growing portfolio of technology enhanced learning offerings. The Vice President identifies new directions and opportunities, both internal and external as well as physical and virtual, to build on the academic quality, reach, and revenue producing performance of the university in online and digital education markets. The Vice President oversees learning research, particularly inquiry on learning in digital environments.

The Assistant Provost for Educational Innovation is involved in shaping campus strategy and providing campus-wide support for innovations in classroom and online education. The Assistant Provost assists academic units with the development of new types of educational programs, especially online programs, guiding campus policies around online programs, and promoting the use of data-driven research and analytics to improve student learning outcomes.

• Manage the strategy for online & innovative teaching and learning initiatives across the Urbana-Champaign campuso $25 million in new revenue for campus in FY15.o New online Winter session generated $3.3 million in its first two years. • Oversight of ~70 CITL employees.• Partner with other major campus units (All academic units, Office of the Provost, Office of the Registrar, the Graduate College, Data Management, Career Services, Financial Aid, etc) in furthering the strategic plan of the University, working to identify and solve issues in a proactive manner; strengthening mechanisms for interfacing with campus and external entities on related matters and ensuring a well organized expansion of online and innovative teaching and learning.• Meet regularly with Academic unit Deans and Associate Deans to discuss tactics for online and technology-enhanced course and program portfolios.• Direct the instructional design, instructional development and instructional media resource teams to ensure high quality services and strategy for innovation in campus teaching and learning.• Management of the instructional strategy annual budget.• Assist in oversight of CITL’s MOOC efforts and partnership with Coursera.• Direct workflow and schematics for all massive online, traditional online, blended/hybrid, flipped and classroom consultations, projects, programs and support.• Set CITL policy and advise on related campus policy related to pedagogy, technology and online/off-campus education.• Manage new campus initiatives related to innovative breakthrough teaching and learning strategies such as the design and use of flexible learning space and dynamic adaptive online learning environments. • Oversee the CITL strategy for the campus Summer Session Online initiative including an understanding of the complex financial management of summer session.
