Senior Development Officer
Five years into my time at VSUW, I was promoted to the role of Senior Development Officer. This role included everything described below, along with greater impact into the strategic direction and operations of the Resource Development department. I was responsible for leading a team of two Development Coordinators, along with coaching and mentoring up to eight Development Officers. In partnership with another Senior Development Officer, we created portfolios for each member of the team and led the Loaned Executive training program each year. My portfolio grew to $8M in annual revenue, including a $3M relationship and two $1M relationships. In this role, I also owned two key departmental projects. First was a focus on strategic partnerships around the Corporate Social Responsibility goals of our donors. In coordination with the Development Officer team, we deepened over 60 corporate relationships through enhanced volunteerism, employee engagement, and restructured financial requests to help our partners align their financial resources to desired community outcomes. Finally, I built and led a departmental data team to create and identify KPI's for our fundraising activity. In partnership with other teams, we assisted the organization with gathering and utilizing more actionable data, allowing us to be more data-driven in our decision making processes.
Development Officer
Following my time on loan with Valley of the Sun United Way, I pursued an opportunity to join the organization permanently - a move made with the full support of the leadership team at Vanguard. Drawn to the mission of improving lives throughout the Phoenix community, I was responsible for relationship development with VSUW's corporate partners in banking, finance, insurance, and media. In my role, I developed and implemented strategic partnership plans at a wide range of businesses, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to family owned companies with 25 employees. My portfolio of companies was responsible for $4-5M annually, and I consistently met goals for donor engagement and portfolio growth. Each corporate partner provided access to their employees, offering the opportunity for the employees to give through payroll deduction. I gave presentations to encourage individual support to diverse groups, requiring the creation and delivery of unique messaging to appeal to each group of employees.
Participant Services Representative - High Net Worth
After my first year in Participant Services, I was selected for inclusion on the High Net Worth team, serving participants with account holdings greater than $250,000. In this role, I worked with participants who were a mix of company executives in specialized non-qualified plans along with longtime investors reaching their retirement years. My role included a focus on retaining participants once they left their employer's plan upon retirement, helping them maintain their relationship with Vanguard and selecting new products at that time.In August 2006, I was selected to serve Valley of the Sun United Way as a Loaned Executive through a highly competitive internal process at Vanguard. While loaned to VSUW, I worked with 30 key corporate accounts, helping them run their workplace United Way campaigns and advocating to their employees about the benefits of giving to United Way.
Participant Services Representative - Retirement Plan Services
At Vanguard, I was responsible for providing a wide range of value-added services to employees who participated in their employer retirement plans (401k, 403b, 457). Series 6 and 63 licensed, I guided new participants through enrollment, helped them select appropriate financial instruments for their age and risk profile, and counseled existing participants through fund reallocations, plan changes, and financial withdrawals. Outside of my participant services role, I was involved in Vanguard's United Way campaign and their "Metrics in Motion" program where associates used data to recommend and implement process improvements within our business unit.
