Advised the UK Labour party and the coalition government on public services and the 'growth coalitions' and ‘smart local government’ project which originally focussed on the need for an overarching economic objective, leading to a rationalisation and coordination of local services and the development of the local area, addressing ‘initiativitus’.'Growth coalitions' concentrated on working with or adapting and developing existing mechanisms for governance, strategic leadership, organisational working, programme development and funding in order to realise a better scenario for local business, communities and service users.Advised across UK government:On 2010 and previous spending reviewsThe 2007 Lyons Review, informing the ‘place shaping’ agendaThe scoping, steering and conclusions of the Treasury’s sub-national review of economic development, with the resultant over-riding economic approach to local area renewalExpert evidence contributed to the 2005 Number 10 Strategy Unit report on Deprived Areas which called for an economic emphasis in local efforts for regeneration. Work was supported by the New Local Government Network.

Worked with English local authorities to develop a corporate roadmap for the evolving scenario of local leadership and delivery of public services in partnership with the range of local players, to achieve enhanced levels of well-being and truly sustainable local economies. Advisor on economic development and growth to C/E Southend On Sea BC: Matters relating to the SE LEP, Southend’s City Deal and sub-regional work. As Associate Consultant with the IDeA, worked in a number of locations, including Walsall, facilitating the development of an “Excellent Regeneration Service” and for corporate improvement through regeneration.Reviewed South Northamptonshire District Councils' Local Strategic Partnerships’ way of working to ensure that it was promoting the well-being of all its communities, on a sustainable basis.

Regeneration Consultant and the Market Towns Programme Manager working on voluntary, public & private sector consultancy commissions, including SRB, ERDF & national lottery related projects. Devised, developed and implemented the Market Towns Programme grant-aided by DETR and The Post Office. Also lead on Centre Vision town centre management projects.Community development credentials were enhanced at the Civic Trust Regeneration Unit, utilising a variety of community engagement techniques (including focus groups) when working with communities throughout England.

One of my early roles was at Bethnal Green City Challenge. My work there, engaging different communities together in economic activities, was identified by the IDeA as best practice in promoting community cohesion.Worked up the £1.7m Economic Development Programme through; a programme of research & policy development; evaluation and effectiveness of existing projects; project development, implementation, management & appraisal; production of bids for ERDF: co-ordinating with local business community & service providers (incl. TEC), funding agencies, Government Office & Local Authority.
