Ventia were responsible for the overall delivery of one of the largest and most complex remediation projects undertaken in Australia which included the design and construction of a 20,000m2 Odour Control Enclosure built on a series of rails, allowing it to be rolled off the site as part of the demobilisation, eliminating the risks associated with complex lifting operations. This enclosure alongside multiple emissions control systems and an automated water treatment plant facilitated the excavation of over 450,000T gasworks impacted waste materials for disposal at several licenced treatment and/or disposal facilities.During these works RIFR of zero was achieved as well as maintaining a challenging programme, recovering delays of up to 8 weeks.

The scopes of work undertaken by Thiess include:- Construction of limestone/granite bund; 400m combined total length;- Reclamation of two islands with a combined area of 16,000m2 forming part of the permanent Elizabeth Quay works involving displacement/mechanical removal of 16,000 m3 unstable swan river alluvium followed by placement and compaction of 74,000 tonnes limestone core and 50,000 tonnes sand; - Design and construction of two excavator mounted dredge barges, three hopper barges and a purpose-built dredge spoil handling and amending facility including fendering for mooring hopper barges and an environmental spill pan; - Dredging, treatment and offsite disposal of up to 12,000m3 of alluvium material contaminated with a combination of Acid Sulphate Soils and asbestos;- Construction of piling platforms to allow diaphragm wall contractor to progress with their package of works; and- Remediation of 14,000 m3 contaminated material including installing two sheet pile walls to maintain public access and electrical services.
