UGRacing is a formula student team from the University of Glasgow. Every year we design and manufacture a single seat race car and compete at the annual UK Formula Student competition. During my 3 years at UGRacing I have been an integral member of the team and have worked on numerous projects including:Power distribution, wiring harness, fuel measurement, brake system plausibility and brake light.

Responsible for managing a team of approximately 10 engineers which included: overseeing project planning and task delegation for the electronic systems sub-team, providing technical direction and decision making, budget management, procurement of parts from suppliers. I also led team meetings and presented to audiences at the University and Silverstone race events.

Redesigned the power management subsystem for an audio development platform to remove dependency on obsolete components. This involved detailed requirements gathering, component sourcing, schematic capture, prototyping and communication with a professional PCB layout engineer. I validated the design through hand calculations and SPICE simulations as well as physical testing on a full-system prototype. I created a backwards compatible firmware package through modification of the Verilog and C++ source code. This work allowed the manufacture of the board to continue and enabled Cirrus Logic to continue to support their customers on this audio development platform.

Researched and implemented a proof of concept C++ publish/subscribe data transmission system on both windows and linux environments using the Data Distribution Service’s (DDS) Real Time Publish Subscribe (RTPS) protocol. The research was used by NXP engineers to enable further dialogue between NXP and its customers with an aim to provide DDS capable hardware and solutions to OEMs in the future.Tested and benchmarked the performance of NVMe SSD over TCP. This read/write performance data was used to compare methods for sharing SSDs between multiple SoCs and ultimately provide a performant, low cost SSD sharing solution to customers.
