About Dr Adam Hawkey

I am an enthusiastic, experienced and accredited/chartered scientist with a focus on human performance within a sport, exercise, health and space context. I have a particular interest in the health and performance implications of a variety of training and monitoring techniques. In addition to working with English Premier League and Championship football teams, Olympic and Paralympic athletes, GB Gymnastics, GB Judo, and at major sporting events (London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2014 Ryder Cup) I have experience with medical patients, military personnel and astronauts from NASA, ESA and other agencies. I currently play a significant role in developing provision in higher education, leading staff, course validations and co-ordinating accreditation from industry leaders: BPS, REPs, CIMSPA and BASES. I my current role as Strategic Lead for Knowledge Exchange I am responsible for coordinating Solent University's engagement with a variety of stakeholders (SMEs, charities, public and professional bodies, local community groups etc), As a former Director (and Deputy Chair) of BASES, and a current member of the Professional Development Committee (High Performance Sport) for the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) I have vast experience of working with external organisations, and influencing policy and partnerships. Contributions to a Sport England project engaging inactive people in sport, and the Dundee Academy of Sport initiative promoting sport as a vehicle for education, have enhanced my research and project management skills. I pride myself on my ability to collate, communicate and disseminate information to a variety of audiences; presenting at national and international conferences and publishing in scientific and academic journals and acting as a STEM Ambassador. I'm also a reviewer, editor, and board member for respected peer-reviewed publications and have co-authored chapters in Routledge's Handbook of Sports Therapy, Injury Assessment and Rehabilitation. I regularly appear as a specialist commentator on radio, tv and digital media (BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, Sky, National Geographic, Discovery Channel) and provided expert statements on Video Assisted Refereeing (VAR) at the FIFA2018 World Cup.
