Senior Economist at the Economic Policy Institute working on trade, industrial policy, and US-China economic relations. Twice named among Washingtonian Magazine's 500 most influential in policy. I conduct original economic research and regularly consult with government, private sector, and civil society leaders in the U.S. and around the world. In 2018, I launched the Global Initiative for a Shared Future, promoting mutual cooperation putting good jobs, community benefits, and environmental stewardship at the core of two-way foreign direct investment projects between China and the U.S. Previously, I was Chief Economist for the Congressional Joint Economic Committee Democrats, a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University's Initiative for Policy Dialogue, Senior Economist at the Roosevelt Institute and the Center for American Progress. I also taught macroeconomics and monetary and financial economics, was a Visiting Scholar at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and worked with the Asian Development Bank, the Political Economy Research Institute, and the Center for Economic and Policy Research.
