What I like ('cos if you like it, you are often good at it):- Gnarly problems that need people and creativity- Working with founders and early stage businesses to get them thinking about money and performance. I call it capital coaching. - Tax administration. Yep, I know, but it's a gnarly problem that never ends. And if you treat taxpayers properly it doesn't have to be like that. - Catching thieves, whether it be fraud, corruption or money laundering. And then fixing it in a way that reduces the collateral damage, and without them getting away with it. - Physics, engineering and IT. The first is where I started, and the latter where I spent a chunk of my career.What I don't like:- Bullies and psychopaths. Someone has to stand up to them.- Financial parasites. Those that abuse markets and systems to line their pockets while adding no value.- Laggards. The people who hold us back from our own future. - Overuse of hyperbole like "passionate". If I could find a way to make LinkedIn profiles invisible if they contain such words, you wouldn't be reading this.
