As the Business Development Intern at this brain hacking startup, my primary responsibility was to grow the start-up’s customer portfolio by conducting market research and attending sales meetings.

I consulted on multiple projects varying from creating a website and ecommerce platform for the Trojan CEO Network to compiling best practice methods in trending telehealth industry pro-bono.

I experienced the entirety of the product launch timeline from idea inception to commercialization. In order to gain this experience in the condensed timeframe of a summer, I worked on a multitude of projects including the vetting of a vendor acquisition, the redesign of a high volume product, and the launch of a new protein expression assay. My main project though was to develop the infrastructure for a robust product transfer. By using Microsoft Excel, SAP, and Oracle’s E1 system I was able to accurately manage this complex process. The switch from outsourcing to in-house manufacturing led to significant improvements in operational efficiency, saving the company nearly $6M annually.

I worked with a postdoctoral scholar determining the affects of traumatic injury on the connectivity of the brain using diffusion tensor imaging and fractional anisotropy. Specifically, I masked fMRI images in order to perform further analysis that displayed publishable patterns in diffusivity. While on the job, I also learned functional knowledge of Matlab and bash (shell script) coding.

I conducted primary research on supply chain segmentation. The goal was to customize our one-size-fits-all supply chain into smaller chains that better addressed variances in the market. I consulted with representatives of our large pharmaceutical customers to target any pains in our service. In addition, I performed analysis on the shipping data from the prior year to find inefficiencies in the existing operation. At the end of the summer, I made calculated recommendations to senior operation staff members on how to improve the supply chain based on my qualitative and quantitative conclusions.

I gained valuable sales experience cold calling hundreds of potential clients over the course of the internship. I was also able to help coordinate an offsite event for our customers.
