I conduct inspections of boats launching and leaving Carter Lake near Berthoud, Colorado. Our goal is to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species. We quarantine and decontaminate infected watercraft, educate the public on aquatic invasive species, and provide information concerning rules and regulations to lake visitors. Communicating effectively with diverse groups of people is an essential part of this position. We work together with other natural resources departments to achieve a common goal: to protect and manage our regional parks, lands, and waters, providing exceptional outdoor recreational opportunities and fostering an appreciation for our natural resources.

Wayne National Forest, Ohio

This was an Ohio University internship in which I aided a graduate student's thesis project. The team monitored the effects of a local highway bypass on state-endangered timber rattlesnakes. This position involved trapping snakes, data collection, and hiking over difficult terrain. I had the opportunity to assist in surgical procedures on the snakes for radio telemetry purposes. Subsequently, we tracked the snakes over a several square mile area on Wayne National Forest land.

Duties included conducting port, arrival/ departure airfield, helicopter landing zone, and rail head operations and the establishment, maintenance and control of transportation throughput systems on beaches, landing zones, ports (air and sea), and terminals (rail, truck, and container).
