As the Chief Technology Officer it is my role to lead core team in the design, implementation, and operation of all core projects at Edge, from the decentralised network services and the blockchain-powered cryptocurrency, to the user-facing websites and apps for customers and contributors alike. In addition to this, my role includes communicating and engaging with our community, providing support and outreach. While still hands on with day to day engineering tasks, leading the team from the front, my responsibilities also include project management and strategic planning, working closely with the founders to streamline the development and release process and consistently deliver on roadmap commitments.

As the Blockchain Lead it was my role to lead the design & implementation of the XE blockchain & cryptocurrency projects at the heart of Edge. Reporting directly to the founders, and working closely with the Network Lead, my responsibilities included the planning, development, and delivery of all core blockchain and finance related projects. In addition, I retained responsibility for automation and infrastructure, and continued to work closely within the close-knit Core Team on network-related projects too.

My role as the Principal Network Engineer on the Core Team was to lead the implementation of all network and business projects, working closely with both the CEO & CTO strategically, and the team technically, to deliver numerous project goals and ambitious roadmaps. I continued my role in supporting the team through automation and integration, and took charge of several infrastructure migrations. Additionally, I led the integration of network-wide monitoring services, expanding on the metrics I'd previously introduced in my role a Senior Network Engineer.

My role as a Senior Network Engineer within the Core Team was spread across working on the core network technology, critical internal systems, and the continuous integration & delivery system. I focused mainly on research & development of network technology, as well as in the design of core principals later implemented by the team. I brought efficiencies to the team through the employment of key continuous integration & delivery systems, enabling quick and easy roll out of builds & releases to a cross-architecture network of hundreds of devices.

Equital analyses traditional and crypto markets, employing artificial intelligence and statistical analysis to generate predictive market movements. This is purely a research organisation, combining the vast volumes of market data with the latest in machine learning and statistical analysis methods.

For this period I worked with Bauer Media Group providing consultant product engineering to the team utilising DADI products. This included working with my product team back at DADI to introduce new features into the products, and the implementation of these products into the Bauer ecosystem. I worked alongside the development & operations teams during this period, offering advice and assisting in the development and delivery of numerous national and international projects.

During my time as a Senior Product Engineer I worked on the core DADI products such as Web, API, CDN, Publish, and Queue. This work included everything from bug fixes, features, through to full rewrites in the case of Queue. I also worked on documentation and led the introduction of containerisation to automated processes where appropriate.

For this period I led the development of the LooksGreat product alongside a team of designers & developers, through the entire product lifecycle, from inception and design, iterating through development and testing phases, and then release, before moving onto maintenance.

My last role within Bravissimo was Technical Lead of the new website platform project. I overlooked the architecture of the full project, from the React-powered frontend, through the migration from .NET to a mostly Node.js-powered microservice backend powered by a high-traffic AMQP backbone, to the Docker-powered infrastructure. I was also responsible for the training of devs and ops alike, as we brought the department one step closer to a true devops way of thinking & working.I was also responsible for the development & management of the new automation systems, utilising Jenkins, Docker, Rancher, and Git. It was my job to make updating development & production instances alike as easy as a git push.My previous roles & responsibilities included mentoring of junior developers, training of developers & non-IT staff, including transitioning of senior developers from legacy to modern technologies, UI Lead of a large in-house ERP system, positive encouragement of personal development, and development of the online presence in the open source community.

I had a range of responsibilities at Bravissimo, from looking after the day to day running of the high traffic desktop and mobile websites to enterprise level project work. As part of the customer facing team, I was tasked with maintaining and improving the website and associated systems as well as developing new platforms to replace them. I spearheaded the research and development into emerging technologies with a view to introducing them to the workplace in such a way that other developers could get up and running and become productive in the shortest possible time.

I came into the company during a time when it had little digital awareness. I looked after everything digital, from upgrading work stations to managing the network, building & maintaining the website systems to developing in-house software.During my time here I developed a network of SEO websites and social media profiles, feeding traffic to one main website, increasing the annual visits to the website from an estimated 3,000 visits a year to 30,000 visits a year. I was also in charge of print media marketing, designing and developing numerous marketing campaigns and the management & nurturing of relationships with media partners, such as MyTime Media (Model Engineer and more).I also developed a stock management application (resulting in a major increase in productivity and organisation), automatic blog and Twitter feed applications, and email marketing software (before moving to MailChimp).In addition to these technical responsibilities I also took part in general business management and client relations, which ranged from general day to day small business office management to IT consultancy for partners & associates in the engineering & fabrication industry.

Provided website & graphic design and web development services to individuals and businesses all over the world. I worked with clients to understand their organisations, identify their needs, and produce the solutions that fit their circumstances.

During the time between 2007 and 2010 I ran a popular and well performing group (known as a Guild) in the massively multiplayer online game World of Warcraft. One may question whether this deserves to be on a curriculum vitae, I believe it does.My responsibilities included the recruitment and management of hundreds of unpaid individuals — motivated by performance of the group alone — as well as the implementation of a management hierarchy. Many skills used would later become transferrable into the workplace, such as leadership, public speaking, dispute resolution, team building, mentoring, asset management, and more. In the game, I led events which required real time co-ordination of between 10 and 40 people. Often there would be multiple ongoing events, during which times I would delegate leadership of other events to certain members of the management. While admittedly this was a game, the strategies and tactics involved were often complex, the co-ordination being via voice communication. This also required the implementation of robust communication protocols during events.Overall, this experience taught me both the skills to work under pressure in a leadership position, as well as the value of good management and preparation to succeed in a profit driven environment. Many of the friends I made during this time have gone on to prestigious careers in arenas such as fintech and biomedical research.

My time here was split between three responsibilities: working on SalesForce-esque software tailor fit to suit the company and the product being sold, setting up and maintaining infrastructure used for both the product and the sales system, and heading up of the website design & development of the product, a children's educational website for schools.
