I examined the impacts of Asian Carp on native Paddlefish in the Mississippi River. This work involved scouring the literature for all of the life history data I could find, bioenergetics modeling and population viability analysis.I also worked on a project to assess habitat quality for fishes along the Mississippi River Floodplain.

My thesis work involved modelling the ranges of six eastern North American oak species and characterizing range differences between seedling and adult life stages.As a lab instructor of a Plant Diversity course, I developed lab exercises and field trips that engaged a diverse group of students in "seeing" plants at many scales; from microscopes to landscapes.

As a graduate assistant for Professor J. Gurevitch, I had the opportunity to lead volunteers through the Pine Barrens in a census of pine demography, develop databases, and review hundreds of articles on invasive species.

Cold Spring Harbor, New York

In collaboration with The Nature Conservancy of Long Island, I led a group of interns in fire effects monitoring of preserved Pine Barrens. This involved long hours in tick-infested forests and woodlands with clipboards and meter sticks. We were also responsible for preparing these same sites for prescribed fire operations.

Boise, Idaho

In collaboration with Dunlap & Browder, Inc., I worked with a team of GIS associates to mine, compile, and present geospatial data about off-highway vehicle (OHV) use. This included contacting dozens of public land management agencies (including USFS and BLM) and procuring spatial data sets of OHV-use to incorporate into a national geodatabase.

Zuni, New Mexico

In collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, I led a group of interns in fire ecology field work. This work contributed to a fire regime and condition map of the entire Zuni reservation.

Lake Bearskin, Minnesota

As a trail guide, I led teenagers on week-long canoe trips through the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.As a board member, I participated in meetings focused on how to provide transformational experiences in a wilderness setting... as well as fundraising events. Both of the above had an incredible impact on the way I view nature and people.
