I am an expert at preparing reports for the board of directors that detail what happened, why it happened, and where the organization is heading.I believe an organization should spend the majority of their funds on the program and development with minimal spending on administration. My computer programming skills enable me to create automations which save time and allow for a small staff to be highly effective. I have set up internal controls to allow for separation of duties without the need for additional hiring.I strongly feel that the workplace should be enjoyable. When employees need to go into the accounting or HR office, they’re usually asking about something outside their scope of knowledge - the most brilliant creative person might be very clueless about a 401(k) plan. I create an atmosphere of lightness in the office, so that there is no intimidating “principal’s office” vibe going on. After the answers to their questions have been answered, we can chat about music, food and everything this wonderful city has to offer. With my own staff, I explain that when you’re working with numbers all day, occasionally a wrong number will get entered. However, if the systems in place catch that error, it isn’t really an error. And if the error doesn’t get caught, the system needs to be fixed. I want my staff to feel completely comfortable coming to me when they think something is wrong. I think the most satisfying part of working with numbers and especially with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) is that you know when something is off.
