Andela is making an impact. They are finding top talent in regions of Africa that typically don't get a lot of tech attention. They are changing what's possible for collaborative, distributed, software teams. They are accelerating the distribution of opportunity for Africa's best and brightest, and they are taking the headache out of finding and growing great technology teams in the US and Europe. In short, Andela is matching great people to great work all over the world.I built their Learning Department. Starting with a small team of 6, we added another 30 over 18 months in three business units (Curriculum Development, Learning Facilitation, and Program Design). I led the department in building Learning Programs to onboard, train, and support continuous learning for software developers across four countries, three timezones, and two continents. We also built a unique and world-class tech and soft skills curriculum with over 3000+ learning objectives. Now I am consulting for the team and the organization as it expands across Africa.

Infused Udemy's Product Development Processes with Learning Sciences research and practices. Conducted qual, quant, and mixed methods research to help design and develop upgrades to the product experience and define learning and engagement metrics within the company. Supported Content and Business Development teams with insights and research.

While working with Udacity, I helped design and launch Nanodegrees. Udacity's flagship student offering, Nanodegrees are relevant credentials, earned through project-based coursework and co-developed with leading technology companies. I also integrated research in the learning sciences into their product development process and their curriculum design strategies, building data-informed roadmaps for existing and future courses.

Learnovate Labs combined the learning sciences with digital technology. We created online courses and apps to accelerate the distribution of technical expertise. Our courses enrolled 400,000+ people across 198 countries. I learned a lot about Founding a company and I made some mistakes on the hiring side that taught me the importance of making sure you're defining and resourcing the right roles. I would later use these learnings to scale productive teams at 3 growing startups.

Served as Chair of the Virtual Playground Development Team. Composed of technologists, teachers, learning scientists, web designers, and instructional designers, our team was tasked with brainstorming, proposing, and developing an online learning environment to connect and engage students in countries around the world. I learned a lot about non-profit fundraising and grant writing. I later applied these learnings to help educators and entrepreneurs craft their project proposals and pitch decks.

Working with a team of instructors and community managers, I helped Mobile Makers create fully immersive learning environments and curricula devoted to building mobile applications for the iOS platform. I also coached aspiring mobile developers while they learned, honed, and mastered their craft.

Trained emerging technologists in web development and design. Applied recent advances in the learning sciences and cognitive engineering toward the instructional design of technical curricula. Harnessed data from key development metrics to measure practitioners' growth and optimize their return on learning investment. Built an emerging mentorship program specifically designed to train novice technologists into expert practitioners.

Taught Algebra, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus to 9th-12th grade students in a learner-centered environment. Designed and tested innovative classroom practices including a collaborative problem solving methodology using data-analysis and a robust leadership and teamwork training program for integration with the standard math curriculum. Analyzed post-course student feedback and presented my findings to my department chair. Collaborated with colleagues to co-author Algebra 2 textbook currently in use and develop online training and testing tools. Facilitated faculty trainings, conducted diversity coaching, and served as co-lead on the Critical Friends Group Leadership Team.

Tutored students ages 11-20 in math, science, writing, and study skills. Developed a “confidence leads to improvement” approach where students are encouraged to establish small but progressively more challenging goals that build their self-esteem while they learn how to learn. Worked with hundreds of students in one-on-one settings adapting the tutoring interaction to their various learning behaviors, challenges, and differences.

Supervised 12 employees, driving production to meet project budgets, managing vendor relations and product inventory. Designed and implemented a bonus program and production efficiency solutions that led to a 23% improvement in the billable hour to paid hour ratio. Managed onboarding, including interviewing, hiring, and training of new employees.

Received, scheduled, and coordinated a diverse field of clients, including individuals, corporate personnel, and politicians in a professional business environment during executive media training sessions. Handled follow-ups, worked with company President to solidify post-training processes. Underwent advanced presentation training, dealing with message development and delivery.

Developed and taught Earth Science, Physics and Math curricula to 8th grade students. Illuminated complex concepts with easily accessible explanations using a combination of lectures, guided labs, and group projects. Helped students improve test scores an average of 12% over one school year.
